A Heritage of Scottish Craftsmanship
With roots in Ayrshire’s rich textile heritage, Robert Mackie has been creating exceptional Scottish accessories for generations. From our original traditional bonnets, crafted for Scottish regiments, pipe bands, and Clan Organisations worldwide, we have continued to preserve the skills and craftsmanship that define our brand.
The Mackie family remains central to this story, carrying forward a tradition of quality, innovation, and pride in every piece we create. Today, we combine this heritage with contemporary design to produce luxury knitted accessories made in Scotland.
Our Mill
Our Ayrshire mill is at the heart of Robert Mackie. Every piece is designed, manufactured, and finished in-house, giving us complete control over quality and craftsmanship.
Alongside our own collections, we work with leading British brands to develop and manufacture bespoke designs, while offering a wholesale accessory collection for retailers worldwide.
Traditional Bonnets
Traditional bonnet-making remains an important chapter in the Robert Mackie story. For generations, our Balmorals and Glengarrys were crafted using specialist skills rooted in Scottish ceremonial tradition. While changing market demand led us to make the difficult decision to cease bonnet production in early 2024, we worked to ensure this heritage continues by transferring the manufacture and distribution of our bonnets to House of Tartan in Crieff, along with our specialist knowledge and techniques.
Our bonnet-making expertise was celebrated internationally through Dior's Cruise 2025 collection, recognising the enduring appeal of Scottish craftsmanship and the legacy of the skills developed at Robert Mackie.
