Robert Mackie has been making traditional Scottish ‘bonnets’ in the heart of Ayrshire since 1845. With a reputation for exacting standards, we’re the only authentic Scottish manufacturer of Glengarries and Balmorals in the world.
We’re very proud of our heritage. Our bonnets trace their origins to the early ceremonial headwear of Scottish regiments, and today we supply leading pipe bands and Scottish Clan organisations around the world.
Our ‘Made in Scotland’ label stands for quality and craftsmanship. Made from pure wool, every hat is hand-sewn to measure by one of our Scottish workers. Our bonnet making techniques have been passed down in Stewarton through generations; it takes years to become fully qualified in the craft.
Our Balmorals, Glengarries and Beret Tams maintain their appearance and, if dry-cleaned or hand-washed carefully, will last a lifetime.
Styles & Colours
Stock colours are available with or without dicing. Most other colours can be matched (the extra dyeing involved is subject to a small additional charge).
We offer a bespoke service for individual pieces, including Tam O’ Shanters. These can be made up in plain cloth, tartan or tweed. You can send us any suitable cloth which you’d like to be made into a special hat.
Pass a measuring tape around your head, just above your eyebrows. Once you know your head circumference, find your hat size below. Our headwear comes in standard UK sizes from 6 to 8.
Just contact us with your head measurements, style and colour preference, and we’ll confirm your cost estimate.Once you’ve ordered, please allow approximately three weeks for delivery of your new headwear. We’re happy to answer questions at any time.
Please note: We cannot accept returns on non-stock colour items. Prices on bespoke items may vary.
